Luke was born in Merimbula on the far south coast of N.S.W. and started surfing at the age of 9. It wasnt long before young Luke was recognized as a regular at the Merimbula Bar or Pambula Rivermouth.
Luke was repairing boards with the help from his father for his mates while still at
primary school and it wasn't long before Luke was turning out finished boards for
those same mates. In the early days this often meant stripping old boards back,
reshaping, glassing and giving them a go to see how they went. As time went on Luke decided this was a career path he wished to follow and traveled to Sydney to spend time doing work experience with shaper Brandon MacDonald. That was an eye opener for Luke, as he saw the lifestyle he could lead as a shaper working in a field he was passionate about, and enabled him to apply the skills he learnt to his own boards.
